Centenary year gets going

2026 is the Sillars Centenary year which got off to great start with a sold out concert at St Catherine’s Church. This is one of our favourite venues due, in part, to its generous size allowing us to bring a full orchestra of 50 or so players but chiefly because of its excellent acoustic. Orchestral musicians have a lot to concentrate on – they must of course play their part whilst keeping an eye on the conductor for changes to tempo and dynamics but they also need to listen to the players around them in their section and then listen for the other sections in the orchestra. St Catherines’ because of its design is particularly suited to this and the more we can listen to each other the better we play and the more the audience enjoy the concert.
